One may not know how their mind wanders and what they tend to imagine more often. Having the wandering thoughts visually recorded on a sketchbook page by page creates a flow of thoughts and offers a whole picture of how one’s mind wanders into creativity and imagination. It almost becomes a narrative or a stream of consciousness.
But because of the nature of imagination, how it can branch off into practically any direction, how wild and incategorizable it can be, it would be rather pointless to go on and explain more about sketchbooks of imagination. A mere glimpse of it should suffice for triggering the viewers to enter an unimagined world for them.
Illustrator Mattias Adolfsson’s sketchbook is one of my personal favorites. They are full of little creatures and elaborate, quirky buildings. Each page unfolds like a narrative, like something’s been happening in that page for a time. They make me wonder what the situation is all about and what the expressionless characters are thinking.
